I’ve Done It – Elf on The Shelf

Well, I finally got an elf for Christopher & Emmy. All of Christopher’s friends have elves and it was time to join the masses. We now have Chippy (obviously named by Christopher, Emmy wanted to name him Dora), who was found in the Christmas tree this morning.

Here are Christopher’s thoughts on Chippy: “Mama, he is an elf on the SHELF. Not on the Christmas tree.” Turning to Chippy he said: “Can you stick to the shelf tomorrow?” Thank goodness my boy wants absolutely no creativity.

“Mama, if you didn’t buy the elf, then why does he have tags on his back?” Crap! I said the tags explained the rules we had just read about, no touching Chippy or being naughty.

He has spent the rest of the morning standing by the tree, just talking to Chippy. It’s pretty cute.

UPDATE: He just said: “Mama, can we get a girl elf so that they can fall in love?”

You got one!!! It is so cute that he asks you those questions. I have a feeling that Christopher is just like you and Paul were. Neither one of you ever acted like you really believed in Santa. When Christopher and I had our shopping trip, Christopher saw a Santa. He was telling me there was another Santa at another Mall. Then he asked me how could he be in the same place. Obviously, he was figuring it out, but it is still fun for him to believe it for this year.

Mollie, I can promise you now that I will be copying all your elf ideas and you will get nothing in return (for example, on Tuesday, you’ll have the elf on the fan. Come Wednesday, Chippy will be on the fan, you get my drift). You’re welcome. 🙂

Sounds like creativity is being born in the wrestling match between skepticism and fantasy. I wonder where “Chippy” came from?
